Aug 3, 1943 – Merton's War Diary

Aug 3, 1943
Worked cutting a new door opening into radio officers room on the Iris.

Just the journal entry for today I’m afraid. I will leave you pondering as I am, how thick are the interior walls of a ship?

In 1943 and 1944,  my Grandfather Merton Young traveled to Greenland while working for the Merritt-Chapman & Scott Company.  He wrote a brief diary of his journey and this is a piece of that story.

Next entry – Aug 5

  1. I think it is great that you have journal from WWII. It’s always nice to read first hand account of things that happened. I am into genealogy and find blogs like yours very interesting. Keep up the good work.

Thank You Gail. I was very glad to see that my Grandfather left a little something. The format that the original is in, several typed pages with entries back to back, makes me wonder if there is an ‘Original Version’ somewhere with perhaps even more detaIls. Until then though I get the fun job of researching and learning which as we all know isn’t that bad either.
